Neda Barghi
Group Leader
I received my PhD from Marine Science Institute-University of the Philippines in 2015 and did 4 years of postdoc in Christian Schlötterer’s lab. I was a group leader at the Institute of Population Genetics, Vetmeduni Vienna from September 2020-2024, and started my group in Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön in September 2024.
During my PhD, I studied the adaptive processes underlying the diversification and evolution of toxin genes in different species of Conus. Since 2015, I have focused on understanding the genetic basis of rapid adaptation in Drosophila. I am quite fond of using time-series phenotypic and genomic data to characterize the temporal patterns of adaptation. Moreover, we develop high throughput phenotypic methods to perform selection experiments that allow us to test predictions of theoretical models of polygenic adaptation.
Beyond the Lab, I enjoy being present with my son, reading books, watching movies, travelling, and petting our cat Pepper.
